Game "Modability" Suggestion (mostly on artwork)

Post by wraithchilde on Sun Nov 22, 2009 10:00 pm

I really like this little game. I like the concept and the play (mostly). I have to admit I liked the flash version more because of the RPG elements, like manually raising the girl's stats, girls not wanting to work now and then, becoming unhappy or unhealthy. I do hope that somewhere down the line you can add some of those elements. I think this format has a lot more potential than flash but it might take a while. I LOVE the text files for the girls, jokers, styles etc. I have already had fun messing with these. This was definitely a step in the right direction and will allow for creativity.

Ok, enough babble. Here are some suggestions, short and long term, important and not, that would really keep my level of interest pretty high, and allow for some creative input by the community.

  1. Allow the artwork for the girls to be changed by the player.

Most importantly the girls portraits and "action" pictures. I'm not a real big fan of anime porn, especially when it's low quality or censored. I, for one, would like to be able to replace all the girls pictures with ones of my choosing. This would require the executable to load jpegs or the player have some way to create these data image files.

A naming scheme that made sense would also be needed. Like girl01_portrait and girl01_sex01, girl01_sex02, for example.
  2. Allow the artwork on the starting screen (difficulty screen) to be changed. This would allow the player create custom pictures and possibly, with a few other changes, create "campaigns" they can share with other players.
  3. Move the quest info to a text file format as well. The player could choose the order of the quests, or which ones they want, adding to the ability to make campaigns.
  4. Also allow the pictures of houses to be changed. This would allow a bit ambience and theme, for example, all authentic japanese architecture, or even some other enthnic group.
  5. Some kind of "skin" for the user forms also read from the directory. Again adding more ambience.
  6. Continued develpment of the "story" aspect, which will allow the editing and adding of "encounters" via the "Take a walk" button, or even stories that are related to a particular girl. For example, Tina runs away if she isn't happy.

These changes would pretty much eliminate requests for girls to be added, etc. Players could make their own themes, such as girls from only a specific anime series or specific type of girl. If I could do all of the above I know I would, and I would like to share it with everyone. It might be as little as changing the girls name and descriptions and running some pics through a photoshop filter, or it might even include some original stuff if I had the time.
I guess that's it for now. I'm looking forward to this becoming a really cool game, better than the flash version. if there are any little things I can do to assist I gladly will.

Well, we don't want to get in trouble for people that would use unlawful characters and such in their versions. However, this can be solved by a simple claim to not being responsible for others' choices.

Whatever.

If you are not distributing copyrighted material with the game, there shouldn't be any legal issues with allowing users to add their own images to the game. SimBro is no different from any .jpg viewer in that sense. Microsoft has no legal liability for users viewing copyrighted images with Windows Photo Viewer, and insofar as displaying images is concerned, SimBro falls under the same legal statutes.

Distributing copyrighted material with the game is an entirely different story. If you are concerned about potential violations, you'd be better off not having any girls built in to the game at all unless you are certain that either a) you have the written permission of the artists who drew the pictures or b) the pictures are in the public domain. The former is nearly impossible to obtain and the latter is nearly impossible to prove.
